Texas Flood Hits Rock Band

texas_flood.jpg

Alright, guitar freaks: This week's package is for you. This week we're proud to release our first blues DLC, with the landmark debut by the master, Stevie Ray Vaughan. We don't mean to slight the energetic work done on this disc by Vaughan's inexhaustible rhythm section, Double Trouble. But if it's jaw-dropping solos you're after, you've come to the right place.

Texas Flood threw music for a loop when first released in 1983. This was the height of the video era, when glamour and great production were what it was all about. Blues was nowhere near the charts. By then Vaughan and Double Trouble had spent a few years building a reputation for inspired club gigs; Vaughan was also the lead guitarist on David Bowie's Let's Dance. Bowie even offered him a slot on his Serious Moonlight tour, but Vaughan had other work to do.

Texas Flood was the kind of album you just didn't make in 1983: It was raw and live-sounding, with no keyboard or backup vocal-type frills (Double Trouble would add a keyboardist later on). Not only was the album a hit but one of its tracks, "Pride & Joy," became the best-known song of Vaughan's career. And it started a blues revival on the charts; the coming years would bring commercial success by Robert Cray and Vaughan's brother Jimmie's band, the Fabulous Thunderbirds.

It's hard to pick a favorite Stevie Ray album, and the five that he made were far too few. But Texas Flood has its share of classics, starting with the intense slow blues on the title track—a song that runs five minutes in this version, usually twice that long in concert. The album revs up in the middle with "Rude Mood" and "Dirty Pool" full of blistering licks: Just pretend you're onstage at a small club in Austin, the Dixie beer is flowing and the roof starts flying off when you nail these solos.

There's also a bonus this week: Last year we made No Doubt's Singles one of our first full-album releases, but there was a hole in the track lineup as "New" wasn't yet available. Now it is, so if that's your favorite No Doubt hit the wait is over.

Regardless of what others have said, this album is a blast to play. The Guitar parts are phenomenal and challenging, he bass grooves are fun, and the drumming, though not complex is a lot of fun for a novice rock band drummer like myself.

Honestly I am very happy to even have the selection that RB offers, I bought GHWT and it's just sitting there. Their selection doesn't even compare!!! I think that DLC should feature one song from each decade... I think the SRV DLC is a great addition... In closing I would like to see some Queensryche, Alice In Chains, Audioslave, SLAYER!!!!!, and some Rancid!!

Wow. Guys. This is not a place to complain because your obscure/overly popular/favouri- te band is not on RB yet. SRV was a legend, and fully deserves his place in the RB catalogue. Harmonix has been damn good about appealing to everybody's ridiculous demands for the last couple years, and don't get enough thanks for the game(s) they've made, or their choices in music to put on the game. Quit your complaining on news releases, go do it on the forum, and instead thank these guys that they still cater to you whiny brats.

Anyway. Sweet update guys. Love Stevie's stuff, and I wasn't expecting a full album, if you guys were to ever put some of his stuff out. Good to see you're still branching out to all aspects of rock. Keep up the awesome work.

rock lives in every decade, and who cares if a song centers around a certain instrument, its good to have songs like that to test out your skills, these are also fun to play when ur friends arent around, my personal faves to play alone is Welcome Home, Texas Flood, and Snow

i'm 20 years old, but to tell you the truth i rarely like any song of this decade or the past one (90's), i prefer the ROCK music fom the 60's to the 80's where the real rock use to exist

Hi, it's one thing to put SO many oldies bands on here. But the fact that all your music is amazingly boring unless you play guitar. IMO More modern bands would be ~MUCH~ better DLC's due to the fact, umm, first off it's more balanced between instruments, secondly, majority of RB2 players are in their teens/low 20s? - Needs more Avenged Sevenfold, My Chemical Romance, Evanescence (I know I'm contradicting the whole anti-oldies thing but QUEEN yesyes^_^)

Hey, think about it. I like these songs IMO, but they could be a heck of a lot worse, like GHWT's DLC, which to be honest, has been a lot worse. I'm looking forward to The Offspring on Tuesday, though.

How about adding a hard solo's set something like Shine by Collective Soul, or perhaps some more 80's stuff like Heart, The Cult, Kim Carnes, more Journey, or the Boss, just a few suggestions. That might be more challenging

No **** and i didnt download it. I gave my opinion on what i thought of it. So my views on music will be different than yours. I dont like 70s, or 80s music. I grew in that era and that era has come and gone. I would rather play the more modern bands. By forcing down our throats, i mean its either download the old **** or you get no new music. There are alot of bands out there that arent even being discussed, so dont come on here and talk **** about my opinion because I dont do it to other people

To the one who states this is "old crap" needs to be aware that half of the talentless "modern" bands these days do nothing but covers of this "old crap" and also are inspired to become a band thanks to them.
And Rock Band is not forcing anything down your throats, you are not forced to download anything so chill.....

Just wanted to say thanks for this FUN dlc. Of course the guitar is the key element in this, but is a beginner on the drums and more or less just looking for something accomplishable to play, the drums arent half bad.
Whether the music is good or bad, is up to individual taste. I am in no way a blues guy, but this IS fun music, and definitely worth checking out. I played through the set once, and went out to buy the CD.

This month is looking intense for DLC. My wallet's shaking already.

Also: Lenny and Rude Mood have particularly shaken my RB library. Testify, Pride and Joy, and Texas Flood are excellent, and the rest certainly isn't a bad investment. But Rude Mood has so much energy packed in the guitar, and Lenny is just so seductive.
