We're Hungry for the Wolf! Wolfmother Five-Pack Includes Three New and "Cosmic" Tracks

The Australian band Wolfmother has been a natural Rock Band fit from the get-go; few modern bands are so in touch with the earthshaking glory of vintage power-trio rock. To celebrate the release of the band's long-awaited sophomore album Cosmic Egg, we're glad to unveil an epic five-pack, with three of the new songs and a pair of favorites from the debut.
As fans well know, Wolfmother has been through some changes between albums, with both members of the original rhythm section quitting. Singer/guitarist Andrew Stockdale decided at first to retire Wolfmother and start a new band (briefly using the name White Feather) - but the songs he was writing sounded like new Wolfmother songs, so the name continued. With the addition of a second guitarist the band is now a power quartet, making good use of the two guitars onstage. If you catch them live you'll hear the first-album track "White Unicorn" turn into a Hendrix-inspired jam; we've got the original version along with the first album's "Woman," which has a crunching riff, a way-high vocal…and cowbell!
Stockdale says that the title of the new album, Cosmic Egg, came to him during a yoga class. He describes the new album as "more dramatic" than the debut and the songs are suitably epic. "Pilgrim," says Stockdale, is about the kind of person you meet who may not seem to be especially sharp, but has the wisdom going on within him or herself. "New Moon Rising" is one that he wrote while sitting at the drum kit, using the high-hat rhythm as the springboard for the riff. And "Sundial," with a big heavy bassline, is one about going round in circles with illusions and dreams. It's a mix of cheap thrills and big rock grandeur, which is Wolfmother in a nutshell.
The package is available October 27 for Xbox 360 and Wii, October 29 for PlayStation 3. The cost is $1.99 per track (160 Microsoft Points for Xbox 360) or $8.49 for the five-pack on Xbox 360 and PS3 (680 Microsoft Points for Xbox 360), $2 per track on Wii.
Get ready to rock with the best music school on the planet!
